Stag beetles: I believe that LOCOG's interpretation of the EU Habitats Directive Annex II implications is wrong. The stag beetle is a protected species across the EU.

There seems to be a pork pie on page 123, "No veteran trees are proposed to be pruned". At first glance at the tree map and schedule, I thought that it was clear that at least two veteran trees stand in the way of the x-country course.

Cooooeeeeee, councillors - they've had, what, nearly five years and for all practical purposes an unlimited budget, and yet today LOCOG still don't know where the bat roosts are in the Park (see page 141). LOCOG still require a European Protected Species (EPS) Licence from Natural England. This Licence (for which they have to know where the roosts are) cannot be applied for until the relevant planning permission has been granted, and development works cannot commence until such a Licence has been granted.

This is relevant to the Council's UDP Section D3 and Policy O22.

Now that I have started to read the paperwork for the Planning Board, I would like to point out that saying "Council planning officers have recommended to councillors that they support the controversial proposals" is a bit misleading.

There is a mile of conditions that LOCOG has to fulfil first, see section 3.2-3.4 (10 pages of it). Eg no work can start until a Site Reinstatement Plan (with financial guarantees and implementation timetable) has been agreed.

The saddest thing is that Cllr Fahy has put time and effort to spray these pages with childish jibes, but he hasn't even bothered to respond to Dave's e-mail.

I'm starting to see why it's hard to get things done in Greenwich.

I do think Spencer Drury and Nick Raynsford deserve some credit for both engaging with this website and taking part in interviews. Hopefully we will feature other candidates as election day looms...

The poor voters of Greenwich are really facing an appalling and doomed decision come election day, aren't they? There's Nick Raynsford, who couldn't care tuppence for what his constituents think and possibly has to check his TomTom for directions to the constituency on the very rare occasions he visits. Then there's Spencer Drury who clearly isn't the brightest of buttons - not on this evidence anyhow - he can barely frame a sentence.

Presumably there's a Lib Dem and a Green around that no-one's ever heard of or from and finally a bunch of mad people intent on losing their deposit by calling themselves Purple Rainbow Custard Freedom Alliance or similar....

Tough choices everybody, tough, tough choices.....

Comment on Should Maze Hill station be renamed? by Alice Mallick

I vote for Maze Hill being named Greenwich Park. This would make the most sense in light of the Olympics due to its ease of accessibility to the Park.

However I think that the stations in Greenwich across Greenwich need to be renamed throughout including Cutty Sark DLR.

It would make more sense if Greenwich Mainline was West Greenwich and Cutty Sark was Greenwich Central as it's right by the waterfront and in the middle of town. Westcombe park could then be renamed East Greenwich.

If the stations were renamed this way it would be a lot easier for visitors to Greenwich to get their bearings and hopefully this would reduce the amount of lost Olympics visitors we need to redirect in August 2012!
