Royal Borough Charter Fiasco

Having been unwell most of the day but feeling better in the evening, I determined to go along to the Old Royal Naval College to view the musical fireworks and follow that up with a trip to the Visitor Centre to see the Royal Charter itself. When I got there (approx 18.15), imagine my shock and dismay to find that the Royal Charter had been "taken away" at 16.00!
To quote the Council's own website: "Discover Greenwich late opening and exhibit, 10am to 7pm. The exhibition will be open late for an opportunity to see the Royal Charter."
What the hell is the point in keeping the Centre open till late, knowing full well that a fireworks display is going to take place that will attract lots of visitors just an hour before closing, but not allowing these latecomers the opportunity to see the object that the whole last three day's worth of fuss has been about, totally contrary to the Council's assertions on it's own website? Once again, Greenwich Council prove themselves incapable of organising the proverbial piss-up in a brewery!

    Hi Jamie,

My boyfriend, my aunt and I were walking home and passing the Discover Greenwich building at 6.40pm and decided to go in and see the charter.

Looking round we couldn't see anything so I went to the Information desk to ask where it was. Of the three workers there, a nice lady politely informed me that "the charter had been taken to The Queen's House for a private function at 3.30pm".

She seemed a bit peed off by this too!

    A bit shit really!

    Lara.

This is ridiculous! How can Greenwich council justify this early removal of the Charter, which they advertised on their own website as being available to view until 7pm? They are putting the needs of the general public second, in favour of those people at the "private function". If the Royal Charter was required for a private party then they should have either waited until after 7pm before removing it, or advertised the fact that it would only be on public display until 3pm/4pm or whatever. Now those people who missed seeing it on Sunday will have to traipse all the way over to Woolwich Arsenal to view it at the borough museum. Oh and don't go there by car as the car park has been closed off and is now a building site.
