Hellooo... why's eating out in Greenwich such a disappointing experience? Other than a couple of exceptions, the town centre restaurants are really unimpressive. I hope the London 2012 bods are bringing a packed lunch because they might find nearby eateries not up to scratch.

I don't know, this offical brochure makes it look like the restaurants sound alright: http://www.greenwichwhs.org.uk/eating/documents/GreenwichPubsRestaurantsFINAL.pdf
I didn't realise there was such a demand for Mexican in Greenwich!

Crikey! The brochure does make it all seem very exciting but, unfortunately, experience tells a different story. I can think of two restaurants that I would choose to eat at and neither of them is Mexican! The rest are, I'm afraid, tasteless cash and carry bought rubbish.
Oh, btw, Inside and Rivington are the only places I can eat at. The pubs are all Brake Bros. frozen produce (usually prepared by an unskilled student earning some extra dosh) and the ethnic places are MSG/colourant laden.
As a second thought though, some of the market food is quite ok but not a restaurant.

I've had a couple of sensational lunches at the Guildford, which is now run by Guy Awford who also owns Inside.

Worst place I have ever eaten in Greenwich Gourmet Burger Kitchen which quite frankly should be ashamed of the very poor standard of food, service and also of the general lack of anything good AT ALL.
But Inside is not only a fave Greenwich restaurant, I'd say that every single thing about this wonderful business is excellent and second to none. And Spread Eagle wonderful too for special.Posted 1 year ago # -
Inside, the Spread Eagle and the Old Brewery. All of which have never failed to disappoint recently. The Spread Eagle got much better after the revamp a few years ago.
I was never a fan of the Rivington, it just seemed that the food was expensive rather than anything special, but then I haven't been there in a year or two now.
Around the market Kum Luang and the Mogul are good.

I think it is always cross referencing against this:
There are some suprising names on here that have failed - one of my favourites is the Penninsular Chinese Restaurant in the hotel - FAIL.
I really wish establishments that fail food inspections were made a bit more public - this name and shame would make them pull their socks up.
Maybe this open new forum will now highlight poor restaurants and tourists reading this may think twice before entering poor establishments.

Not only did that Chinese restaurant fail to the food safety award, hygiene was so bad they got pretty hefty fine:

It's a real shame because the Penninsular Chinese Restaurant used to be one of the best Chinese Restaurants in London at one point (soon after it first opened). I used to go there for Dim Sum all the time a few years ago.
