Does Tom seriously expect Greenwich Council to lay on a special ferry just to stop him being inconvenienced for a year. What a waste of money that would be , surely he can consider alternative transport for that time. What next, a helicopter service for those motorists who cant take their normal route because of roadworks.

Simple choice, if you want it to look better then you have to put up with the hassle, if not then accept it for what it is.
It's not a waste of money , not when you have thousands of pedestrians and cyclists walking through the foot tunnels every day, as well as the tourists. What are the alternatives to a ferry replacement 'Anon'? How can organising a replacement in order to help the public have access between north and south of the river be a waste?
If this has to go ahead can the council ensure that cyclists can use the DLR from cutty sark to island gardens only?
DLR will not budge on this am afraid. That's why we need the ferry service as a replacement.

Some cyclists do wizz through the tunnel. Most I see either cycle very slowly or push, ie use that basic human condition common sense. I fail to see why the tunnel needs refacing. Its just a tunnel, do people really hang out down there and require the tunnel to look nice. Lets just save the money and leave as is.

I have no sympathy for bike riders like Tom.

The vast majority make the tunnel a living hell - whizzing through the tunnel on their bikes, even though they are not allowed to. Even since the gates have been put in place they still ride through them - not caring about pedestrains that get in their way.

Hopefully fines will be introduced and handed out to the offenders soon.

As for Tom's attitude it sucks.

He wants to lose £11.5m of public funds that are designed to make the tunnel a safer place. It might be fine to whizz thru on a bike when you feel threatened by people in the tunnel. Trying doing that when you are on foot.
