Description
The works of award winning choreographer Russell Maliphant are captivating to watch and are richly informed by a unique collaboration with the lighting designer, Michael Hulls, and their distinctive approach to the relationship between movement, light and music.
The Russell Maliphant Company returns to Laban in a programme featuring a screening of Maliphant's Critical Mass, the solo Shift performed by Maliphant himself and Afterlight (part one) performed by the award-winning Daniel Proietto.
Critical mass documents a duet performed by Maliphant and Miquel de Jong. A mesmerising cross between a wrestling match and a tango, this is a tale of two bodies so close that they seem to be driven by telepathic communication. Maliphant will then perform his popular solo work Shift created in 1996 in collaboration with Michael Hulls with music by Shirley Thompson. This subtle and hypnotic piece epitomises Maliphant's exploration of light and movement. The final performance will be AfterLight (part one) which was originally commissioned as part of In the Spirit of Diaghilev at Sadler's Wells in 2009 for which Proietto won Dance Europe's Outstanding Performance of the Year' award.
