Event Description

A visit to Greenwich could be fully accomplished with a trawl of Use Your Loaf the Ben Oakley Gallery. The Gallery opened on 29 April 2011 and is neatly set on Turnpin Lane running alongside Greenwich Market.
The gallery hosts works from five artists comprising of a graphic designer, illustrator, abstract painter, sculptor and Ben Oakley works using hand cut stencils, spray paint, acrylic and emulsion. With a group of personally known artists Ben Oakley is keen on the gallery reflecting his taste of art. As a conceptual artist, his work doesn't stick to one style, medium or subject matter.
The Ben Oakley venture offers new artists the opportunity of space, obtain feedback on their work and build confidence by contributing with nominal commissions. The space boasts its presence in a Georgian building with the original brick wall forming the backdrop for the art on display.
Art carry price tags from £100 to £6000 and the unique feature is the use of recycled materials like old doors and windows to form frames. As Ben said, “it is an informal space where one can be creative and express oneself”.
Ben started his working life in graphic design which included art direction for photographic and film shoots. He moved into the film industry and started his own film production company Secret River. He won awards for different projects most notably at the Bristol film festival.
Ben's career path has been diverse from lighting, furniture and product design, to striking mosaic installations. 45 years in the art industry and visitors can enjoy the works of a market trader who is today a proud gallery owner.
Some of Ben's work can be viewed and information obtained at the site http://www.benoakley.com/. The gallery is open to public from Thursday to Sunday 11a.m. to 6p.m.
