Event Description
Wassail 2019 will feature:
Southwark-based Cunning Folk, Morrigan from Charlton -with four-part harmonies , Greenwich Morris Men and Halstow Community Choir.
Alongside the café and playground of this well-used local park, amidst the roots of the old trees there are memorial stones and a mass grave dating from 1857 when the bodies of 3000 sailors from Greenwich Hospital were buried.
Cunning Folk AKA George Hoyle is a folk musician, storyteller & folklorist. He sings songs from the traditional folk repertoire & original material about folk practices, ritual landscapes & witchcraft. Last year he performed on bills with Martin Carthy & Alastair Roberts, has sold out storytelling shows in the crypt of Southwark Cathedral & in the Cutty Sark
His new album "Constant Companion" is out now.
Folk Radio UK: "It is rare for an album of predominantly traditional material to sound fresh and inspired all the way through. It is even less common for such an album to feel both thrillingly contemporary and utterly timeless. With Constant Companion Hoyle somehow managed it. As Cunning Folk, he is making some of the finest acoustic music to come out of this country in years."
