Some years ago I met someone who was researching that war memorial – I don’t know what has happened to him or his research, but he told me that – as it says – a scroll with the names of the war dead was put inside. He said that originally there was a duplicate scroll kept in St.Alfege’s church but that it was stolen quite soon after it was put there. He also said there were no records as to who actually owns it – i.e. if it is on land which belongs to the Park or the Council.
