Have You Lost A Pet?

February 6, 2009 By Rob Powell

Having a pet go missing is a very stressful and upsetting time, and spreading the word to local people who might have seen it is something practical you can do whilst your waiting. In order to further develop this site as a useful local resource, we will be adding a missing pets section, so if you find yourself in the unfortunate position of having lost a pet, please do email us with the details.

Send an email to rob@greenwich.co.uk with a description of the pet, when he or she was last seen and preferably a photo too and we’ll get it up on the site ASAP and do our bit to help.

Daily Photo 06/02/09: Snowy Greenwich Pictures Day Five

February 6, 2009 By Rob Powell

I wasn’t planning to run any more snow pictures this week, but then Stephen sent me a batch of gorgeous photos taken in Greenwich Park this week, so I thought I’d share a couple here and save the rest for when the snow is but a distant memory.

Greenwich Park under Snow
Wow, stunning blue sky and that cold white floor below.

One of the best views in London, but with a dusting of snow added.

Thanks Stephen, for sharing your excellent pictures.

Monopoly Competition: The Four Train Stations

February 5, 2009 By Rob Powell

In the original game of Monopoly, there are four train stations – Fenchurch Street, Liverpool Street, Marylebone and King’s Cross. When we were deciding on a previous square, contributor Tony Usher had the good idea to put Greenwich attractions rather than stations on the Greenwich version of Monopoly we are making for this competition prize.

So, going with Tony’s suggestion, we are now looking for your four Greenwich attractions that could go on the board to replace the four train stations.

[wp_ad_camp_1]

How to enter: Just list four Greenwich attractions in the comments below. We will select the winner or winners and they will each receive four entries into the prize draw. I really think this is going to be an easy one so get entering as this one probably represents your best chance of winning that unique, Greenwich Monopoly set.

Any questions? Just ask…

Daily Photo 05/02/09: Queen Mary Court

February 5, 2009 By Rob Powell

Queen Mary Court by Nick Davison, University of Greenwich

This is probably the last of our snow themed Daily Photos for the time being, and shows the courtyard of Queen Mary Court at the Old Royal Naval College. Photo was taken and contributed by Nick Davison at the University of Greenwich.

Continuing the snowy theme of the week, here’s another great picture from the lens of Nick Davison at the University of Greenwich showing the Dreadnought Library.

Daily Photo 03/02/09: More Snowy Greenwich Pics

February 3, 2009 By Rob Powell

Here’s a rather charming photo, taken in the courtyard of King William Court by Nick Davison from the University of Greenwich. The small snow animal in the foreground gives it certain Narnia-esque qualities?

And I’m dipping into DaveH48’s Flickr photostream with this one showing people trekking through a busy, but cold looking, Greenwich Park.

More snowy Greenwich pictures can be found here and here.

Nightmare Journey on the DLR

February 3, 2009 By Rob Powell

Occasional commenter Tom emailed me his account of a nightmare journey back to work on the DLR today after yesterday’s “extra bank holiday”.

“I can’t move in any more there is no ROOM. Get the next train!”

“I cant wait , 3 trains I let go already”

“Wait till the next one then”

“No!”

“stop shoving!”

“I have to get on and get to work….”

“Ok then just get on and shut up!”

“Thats not very nice , thats very rude”

“Well i thought it was rude when you pushed and shoved at my wife..”

Later on at Limehouse I shouted out for people to just walk the lazy b’stards, then realised it was quite a way to Bank from there! I felt silly but luckily I had looked stern enough to carry it off. People generally don’t answer back – this wasn’t in Lewisham, after all!

A woman kept saying “Chadwell” on the phone explaining to her boss, and she was corrected by irritated passengers and told to say Shadwell!

All in all i wanted to turn animal and fight my way off and on to the tracks, I’d have done it too but i feared loads would have fallen off with me!

Horrifc journey. The train kept stopping. It was 1hr 10 mins of debauchery!

Thanks Tom. Quite a vivid description of what sounds like a nightmare journey! Did you use the DLR this morning? How was it for you? Were you on the same train as Tom when he called you all lazy for not walking from Limehouse? Wwre you the lady on the phone who was calling it Chadwell?

Snowy Greenwich Videos from Youtube

February 2, 2009 By Rob Powell

With lots of workers and school children enjoying an extra day off thanks to the snowfall, families descended on Greenwich Park for sledding and other snow based fun. Here’s some videos captured today and posted on Youtube which give a flavour of a busy Greenwich Park.

Families sledding in Greenwich Park

“Kamikaze going down the hill” – watch out for someone falling over at about 23 seconds.

Snowman Destroyer – Take a good look at the snowman at the start of this video. Someone’s about to destroy it. See how many people are in the background!
