Competition: Win a Royal Greenwich 2014 calendar

December 11, 2013 By Greenwich.co.uk

TWO CHANCES TO WIN GREENWICH CALENDAR

Greenwich.co.uk is giving away two of the Royal Greenwich calendars that have been created for 2014. The calendar features images from around the borough with Greenwich, Charlton, Woolwich and Eltham all represented inside.

It costs £6 and is available in local shops and online.

To be in with a chance of winning a free copy of the calendar, all you need to do is send an email with the name of the tall ship that appears in the month of May in the calendar.

Once you know the answer, simply email it to rob@greenwich.co.uk and put “competition” in the subject line. The closing date is noon on Friday 13th. It will be unlucky for some but lucky for two others when I pick the winners at random from the correct answers.

If you win, the calendar can be sent to you or to someone else if you’d like to give it as a Christmas present.

Helpful tip: all the pictures, along with descriptions, are shown on the website through which they’re being sold.

UPDATE – Winners were Kevin and Sarit.

Competition: Where was this photo taken?

November 25, 2012 By Rob Powell

Untitled

Here’s a brain teaser for Sunday afternoon. Where was this photo taken? The first person to work out the location and post in the comments below will win a free Royal Greenwich souvenir calendar for 2013.

If you can’t work it out, you can stil get a calendar anyway in local shops and online.

Update: Well done to Seb who very quickly – quicker than I expected – worked out this location, despite bearing the (old) Greenwich Council logo was not actually in the borough but at the educational facility the council owns in Wrotham, Kent.

Daily Photo: 27/07/2010 – Where in Greenwich is this? *Competition*

July 27, 2010 By Rob Powell

Where's this?

We’ve had some fun “Where in Greenwich is this?” type picture posts before but if you can identify the spot at which the picture above was taken, there’s more than kudos up for grabs. Mike Catterall from Mike Catterall Floral Designs in Trafalgar Road has generously put up a hand tied bouquet to the value of £30 as a prize. It can be picked up from the shop or delivered to any address in the UK.

So, to win the bouquet, all you need to do is work out where I took the picture above in Greenwich SE10, and post your answer as a comment on this post. The winner will be the first person to post the right answer here as a comment.  If nobody has got it right by the end of the afternoon, I will add some “hot and cold” clues to the answers suggested.

UPDATE: Well done to Graham for getting it right in the comments below – the answer was the auction house in Old Woolwich Road, near to the Power Station opposite Stone Interiors. Here’s the bigger picture…

Greenwich.co.uk is 1 – Win a Prize

August 4, 2009 By Rob Powell

About 12 months ago – the exact day is a little hazy – Greenwich.co.uk was born. The aim of the site has always been to deliver fresh, engaging content to the Greenwich community on a regular basis and hopefully we’ve managed that at least some of the time over the last year.

To mark our first birthday, I thought it was a good excuse to give away another one of the fantastic Greenwich Monopoly sets that we created at the start of 2009. Square by square, we decided, with the help of readers, on Greenwich equivalents to the traditional London Monopoly board and ended up with a gorgeous Greenwich Monopoly set that comes nicely packaged in a presentation tin.

The first set was won back in April and now it’s your chance to win it too. It will be only the second time this Greenwich Monopoly set has been created and it does actually get manufactured in the official Monopoly factory.

To Win:

Email monopoly@greenwich.co.uk and answer the following question:

In what year was the Cutty Sark built?

Please include your name and address on the email. One entry per email. A winner will be drawn from correct entries on Wednesday 19th August.

Update: The competition was won by Martin Descalzi.

Greenwich Monopoly: And the winner is…

April 15, 2009 By Rob Powell

Greenwich Monopoly

The Monopoly competition started at the tail end of 2008, and since that time, visitors to this website have helped us name all the equivalent squares on the Greenwich Monopoly board. It’s been a great effort, and I’d like to thank everyone that has taken part.

After drawing a name from the hat, I can announce that the winner of the Greenwich Monopoly set is Mr Dave Levitt from Pelton Road. Congratulations Dave, will be on its way to you soon and I hope you have a lot of enjoyment from it.

Thanks again to everyone that took part. To those that didn’t win, don’t despair: the Greenwich Monopoly set we have made together is such a fantastic prize, I will be getting another one made soon and giving someone else another chance to win one.

If you can’t wait til then and want to make your own,  click here to find out how.

Later on today, I’ll be announcing the winner of the Greenwich Monopoly competition. The board itself is beautiful and presented in a lovely tin. I’ve taken a few photos of it to show how nice it is…

Win "A Year In The Life Of Greenwich Park"

April 9, 2009 By Rob Powell

A Year in the life of Greenwich Park by Anthony QuineyA Year In The Life of Greenwich Park by Anthony Quiney (published by Frances Lincoln) that tells the story of London’s oldest enclosed Royal Park. The book uses the four seasons to create a narrative of the park through an informative text and top quality pictures.

You’ll learn about the park’s history, its buildings, its views and its trees. For such a recent publication, you may have expected a reference to plans to use the park for London 2012 but it steers clear of controversy.

Quiney himself knows Greenwich well, and was the Professor of Architectural History at the University of Greenwich.

If you love the Park, and frankly who doesnt, this is great coffee table fodder. It’s but Greenwich.co.uk is giving away a copy of the book…

Competition

To win a copy of Anthony Quiney’s A Year In The Life of Greenwich Park, simply answer this question:

What time of the day does Greenwich Park open to pedestrians?

Email your answer to rob@greenwich.co.uk. Closing date for entries is 1pm on Thursday 16th April. Winner will be announced on Friday 17th April.

Monopoly Competition: Purple Squares

March 27, 2009 By Rob Powell

There’s another three entries in our Monopoly competition up for grabs here. This time we are deciding the purple squares from the original London Monopoly. Those squares are Pall Mall, Whitehall and Northumberland Avenue.

To enter, simply state the name of the Greenwich street you’d like to nominate.

You can nominate one, two or all three squares. Keep an eye on the Competition summary page which tells you all the Greenwich Streets that have been used up already.

If your nominations are selected, you will receive an entry for each one into the Greenwich Monopoly Prize Draw. Your entry doesn’t need to be unique – if someone posts the same suggestions you were going to make, you both still receive a prize draw entry if that one is selected.

Deadline for this one is Monday lunchtime. If you’re unclear of how to play, please just ask.
