Crooms Hill

Small building on Crooms Hill. Notice someone has daubed the word “CIVIL” on it. A very civilised piece of graffiti tagging?

Monopoly Competition: Bond Street

January 12, 2009 By Rob Powell

In the last square, we decided that the Greenwich equivalent of Oxford Street was Trafalgar Road. Now we turn our attention to another shopping location: Bond Street.

Bond Street isn’t actually the name of a street – it’s the short hand name given to two streets: Old Bond Street and New Bond Street. These streets are home to a number of upmarket boutiques.

So, what part of Greenwich should replace Bond Street? College Approach? Nelson Road? Greenwich High Road? Greenwich Market? Or how about going ironic and choosing Greenwich Retail Park? Submit your entry below – usual rules apply – and we’ll pick a winner.

Daily Photo 09/01/09: East Greenwich District Hospital Mosaic

January 9, 2009 By Rob Powell

East Greenwich Hospital Mosaic

According to the information panel, this mosaic was created by Phillippa Threlfall in 1974, after being commissioned by the Department of Health for East Greenwich District Hospital. It was moved to its current local in Glenister Green, in Woolwich Road, in 2007, at which time Phillippa Threlfall was invited back to undertake restoration and minor repairs. If you look in at the panel 2nd from top right in the picture above, you can see Threlfall’s “signature”. Click on the pictures to see in larger sizes.

Why use the Greenwich.co.uk Forum?

January 9, 2009 By Rob Powell

One section of Greenwich.co.uk which is looking rather moribund is the Greenwich Forum. Forums are really hard to get off the ground because until there’s much conversation happening, people are often reluctant to get involved. But a forum can be a really rewarding way to chat with people who have a similar interest, or in this case, live in the same area.

One of the great things about a forum is that it puts you in control. With a blog or news site, you take a lead from the editor or writer and you can reply to their agenda, but with a forum it’s up to you: you can post what you want, when you want. Got something to get off your chest? Had poor customer service in a local restaurant?

So if you have something to say about Greenwich, have a look at the Greenwich Forum. It doesn’t take long to register and then you can start a discussion about anything you want and even start polls to get a snapshop of opinion. You can also send private messages to other users and have your own profile with info you want to share about yourself.

Greenwich Monopoly: Oxford Street

January 9, 2009 By Rob Powell

It’s been a couple days since we decided that the Greenwich equivalent of Park Lane would be Crooms Hill and now we’re going to move onto the green squares on the board, starting with Oxford Street.

Oxford St is, almost certainly, the most well known shopping destination in the UK. So we’re looking for a major shopping thoroughfare in Greenwich to become the equivalent of Oxford St in our Greenwich version of Monopoly.

Usual rules apply – one entry per person, just post your answer below in the comments. You can have the same entry as someone else that enters and everyone who enters with the street we select will receive one entry into the prize draw to win this special, custom made Monopoly set.
