King's Troop arriving in Woolwich

The King’s Troop arrived at Woolwich Barracks last night and this morning they paraded through Woolwich while onlookers waved flags and cheered.

We watched on Little Heath, it’s a shame that the local police just rode their push bikes up & down instead of trying to stop the buses forcing their way through, the soldiers just carried on like good soldiers do but to the rest of us it seemed very chaotic.

Kremlinologists will note that the picture on Page 1 of this week’s Greenwich Time is cropped to exclude Opposition councillor Nigel Fletcher who was standing on the far left of the front row of the saluting platform.

Another interesting figure on the dais, although he is not clearly visible in the photo, was John Anderson the local head honcho of Berkeley Homes, developers at both Woolwich Arsenal and the Ferrrier. He’s a decent bloke but I find the closeness of the relationship between Council and developer, symbolised here, to be unhealthy while councillors have to consider planning applications from BH.
