Monopoly Competition: Blue Squares

March 11, 2009 By Rob Powell

Apologies for the delay in getting the next round of our Greenwich Monopoly competition up. This time we’re looking at the blue squares, which in the original UK version were represented by Pentonville Road, Angel and Euston Road.

To enter, and get a chance to win a Greenwich Monopoly set, simply reply below with your Greenwich equivalents for these squares. Usual rules apply – a will be picked on Friday.

See the Competition homepage to see which streets have already been taken.

Monopoly Competiton: Orange Squares

February 22, 2009 By Rob Powell

With the yellow squares decided, we move on now to the orange squares, which are Bow Street, Marlborough Street and Vine Street on the original London Monopoly set.

To enter, simply state the name of the square and the Greenwich equivalent that you’d like to nominate. e.g.:
Vine Street = Creek Road (for example!).

You can nominate one, two or all three squares. Keep an eye on the Competition summary page which tells you all the Greenwich Streets that have been used up already.

If you nominations are selected, you will receive an entry for each one into the Greenwich Monopoly Prize Draw. Your entry doesn’t need to be unique – if someone posts the same suggestions you were going to make, you both still receive a prize draw entry if that one is selected.

Deadline for this one is Tuesday lunchtime. If you’re unclear of how to play, please just ask.

Monopoly Competition: The Four Train Stations

February 5, 2009 By Rob Powell

In the original game of Monopoly, there are four train stations – Fenchurch Street, Liverpool Street, Marylebone and King’s Cross. When we were deciding on a previous square, contributor Tony Usher had the good idea to put Greenwich attractions rather than stations on the Greenwich version of Monopoly we are making for this competition prize.

So, going with Tony’s suggestion, we are now looking for your four Greenwich attractions that could go on the board to replace the four train stations.

[wp_ad_camp_1]

How to enter: Just list four Greenwich attractions in the comments below. We will select the winner or winners and they will each receive four entries into the prize draw. I really think this is going to be an easy one so get entering as this one probably represents your best chance of winning that unique, Greenwich Monopoly set.

Any questions? Just ask…

Monopoly Competition: Whitechapel and Old Kent Road

January 23, 2009 By Rob Powell

So far we’ve decided all the green squares and all the blue squares of our Greenwich Monopoly board. I thought we’d go to the opposite end of the spectrum now and tackle the brown squares. I want to get through these a bit quicker so we’re going to double up on this one and play for TWO entries! (Calm youselves at the back!)

Whitechapel and Old Kent Road are the cheapest streets in the game. Hmm… I wonder how we can do this without sounding snobbish and passing judgement! Let’s just have your entries please for two Greenwich streets to take the place of Whitechapel and Old Kent Road on our bespoke Monopoly board. I’ll pick a winner and there will be two entries up for grabs for whichever entry or entries are in luck.

I hope this all clear by the way… running competitions is a skill in itself which I’m still learning the ropes for, so if anything’s not clear, just ask!

Monopoly Competition: Regent Street

January 16, 2009 By Rob Powell

With Bond Street decided as Greenwich Market, and Oxford Street decided as Trafalgar Road, that just leaves Regent Street to decide from the green squares on the Monopoly Board.

Completed in 1825, Regent Street is one of the West End’s most famous shopping streets, and did you know that every building in Regent Street is protected as a listed building?

We’re looking now for a road in Greenwich that could take the place of Regent Street on the Greenwich Monopoly board. Let’s make this a quick one, so if you have an idea post it on the site using the comments form below.

Monopoly Competition: Bond Street

January 12, 2009 By Rob Powell

In the last square, we decided that the Greenwich equivalent of Oxford Street was Trafalgar Road. Now we turn our attention to another shopping location: Bond Street.

Bond Street isn’t actually the name of a street – it’s the short hand name given to two streets: Old Bond Street and New Bond Street. These streets are home to a number of upmarket boutiques.

So, what part of Greenwich should replace Bond Street? College Approach? Nelson Road? Greenwich High Road? Greenwich Market? Or how about going ironic and choosing Greenwich Retail Park? Submit your entry below – usual rules apply – and we’ll pick a winner.

Greenwich Monopoly: Oxford Street

January 9, 2009 By Rob Powell

It’s been a couple days since we decided that the Greenwich equivalent of Park Lane would be Crooms Hill and now we’re going to move onto the green squares on the board, starting with Oxford Street.

Oxford St is, almost certainly, the most well known shopping destination in the UK. So we’re looking for a major shopping thoroughfare in Greenwich to become the equivalent of Oxford St in our Greenwich version of Monopoly.

Usual rules apply – one entry per person, just post your answer below in the comments. You can have the same entry as someone else that enters and everyone who enters with the street we select will receive one entry into the prize draw to win this special, custom made Monopoly set.

Monopoly Competition: Park Lane

January 2, 2009 By Rob Powell

Last time round we decided that the Greenwich equivalent to Mayfair was Gloucester Circus.

Now we will have a think about the other dark blue square, Park Lane. The real Park Lane is a glamourous road at the western edge of Mayfair, home to grand hotels. In the game, property rents on Park Lane are just a little under Mayfair, so we are looking for another exclusive part of Greenwich for this one.

To enter the competition and stand a chance of winning the one-off custom made Greenwich Monopoly set, just post a comment below with the road in Greenwich that you think is the local alternative to Park Lane. The person or persons who post the name that we agree with will receive one entry each into the draw. If somebody posts the name that you were thinking, don’t be put off adding the same name. Also, feel free to add a reason to help us decide on the right choice!

Entries for this one will remain open until Sunday afternoon.
